20 Encouraging Quotes for Turning 70
Once you turn 20, any birthday that ends in a zero (euphemistically referred to by well-meaning friends as ‘special’) is a cause for soul-searching.
My most recent ‘special’ birthday had a 7 in it, as well as a 0 so it was something I’d not been looking forward to at all.
My family and friends had tried to make it ‘good-special’ but with the UK in lockdown, they were up against it from the start.
But even they hadn’t planned for the fact that I’d end up spending it 200 miles away from the arrangements they’d made, with my Dad and a virtually unknown carer. Instead of enjoying what they’d planned for me, I sat by his bed, watching my Dad getting frailer by the day. Sometimes he didn’t even seem to know who I was, let alone that it was my birthday.
Three weeks later he was admitted to a care home, and in less than another month he slipped peacefully away.
My neighbor (back home) played a blinder ‘on the day’, rescuing gifts left outside my house in the pouring rain. Those closer to me knew where I was and held their gifts until my return home.
But the whole sad day was even more depressing than it would have been if I’d ‘just’ been turning seventy.
To try and restore my spirits that have been so badly bruised by the last 4 months I’ve been researching some quotes by famous names about being 70.
